Accidents in Los Angeles

Local roads. Insider strategy.

Los Angeles is where Oaks Law Firm is based. Our headquarters sits on Ventura Boulevard in Sherman Oaks, between the Sepulveda Pass and the heart of the Valley, with a second office in Woodland Hills. The region's freeways, wide surface-street corridors, rideshare traffic and heavy pedestrian foot traffic produce collisions every day, and the insurance companies on the other side are ready with a quick, low offer. We listen first, then investigate the crash, document the injuries properly and negotiate from a position of strength. If you can't come to the office, we can meet by phone, by video, or at your home or hospital.

Know the hotspots

Los Angeles danger zones

1Ventura Blvd & Van Nuys Blvd

Two busy arterials meet beside our Sherman Oaks office, with heavy retail traffic, turning vehicles and pedestrians. Rear-end and left-turn collisions are the risks to watch for here.

2US-101 & Sepulveda Blvd

The Sepulveda Pass carries commuters between the Valley and the Westside, with tight merges and stop-and-go traffic that produce chain-reaction crashes. Evidence from these collisions disappears quickly.

3I-405 & US-101 Interchange

One of the busiest interchanges in the country, where commuters and commercial trucks weave across lanes. Multi-vehicle and truck collisions tend to start in exactly these merges.

The rules that apply

California law for your claim

California's 2-Year Statute of Limitations

Under California Code of Civil Procedure § 335.1, you generally have two years from the date of your accident to file a personal injury lawsuit. Surveillance video, traffic-camera footage and witness memories disappear much sooner, so call early.

Comparative Negligence in California

California is a pure comparative negligence state (Li v. Yellow Cab Co.). If you were partly at fault, you can still recover compensation, reduced by your share of fault. Insurers often try to inflate that share, and we push back.

Government Claims (Metro / City / County)

If a Metro bus, a city or county vehicle, or a dangerous public road caused your accident, you may have only six months to file a government claim under Government Code § 911.2. That is much shorter than the standard deadline, so talk to a lawyer right away.
